Brick & Stone Repointing
Carefully removing deteriorated mortar and replacing it with a matching mix, restoring both the appearance and performance of your brickwork.

The mortar between your bricks plays an important role in protecting and supporting the structure of your building. Over time, exposure to weather, moisture and the natural ageing process can cause mortar joints to deteriorate, crack or begin to fret.

Repointing involves carefully removing the deteriorated mortar and replacing it with new mortar, restoring both the appearance and performance of the brickwork.

When deterioration is left untreated, moisture can penetrate deeper into the masonry and contribute to further damage. Addressing the problem early can help preserve the brickwork and prevent more extensive repairs in the future.
A Careful Approach to Repointing
Quality repointing is about much more than simply filling the joints. The existing mortar needs to be removed to an appropriate depth without damaging the surrounding bricks and the new mortar needs to be compatible with the existing masonry.

At Craftpoint we carefully assess the condition of the brickwork and existing mortar before beginning work. We pay close attention to the colour, texture and profile of the original joints so the completed work integrates naturally with the existing façade.

Our process includes:
-
Carefully raking out deteriorated mortar
-
Removing dust and debris from the joints
-
Assessing the existing mortar and brickwork
-
Matching the new mortar to the existing colour and texture
-
Reinstating the appropriate joint profile
-
Carefully cleaning the brickwork once the work is complete
The result is carefully restored brickwork with renewed mortar joints, improved appearance and a finish that respects the character of the building.Â
Repointing for Period & Character Homes
For older and character properties, choosing the right mortar and joint profile is particularly important. An inappropriate repair can alter the appearance of the façade and in some circumstances cause unnecessary stress to the surrounding masonry.

Our experience in brick restoration allows us to approach each building individually, selecting materials and techniques that respect the existing construction.
